BNPC operates under potential

22 Oct 2015

The Parliamentary Committee on Statutory Bodies has advised Botswana National Productivity Centre to collect money from debtors to avoid the shortfalls that they are currently experiencing.

The committee said BNPC is a productivity centre hence should lead by example and be able to find means to raise funds.

The MPs emphasised that they believed BNPC was not doing enough in terms of making money citing that there was potential in government ministries, councils and parastatals which the centre could take advantage of and offer training to them.

They urged BNPC to package their training well and sell their product to the right people so as to make money for themselves instead of depending on government grants.

The committee called on the centre to go back and revitalise their marketing strategies which would align and take advantage of the government and private sector's training budget.

They further advised that BNPC should do team buildings and network with the right people.

BNPC executive director Mr Baeti Molake stated that their product was difficult to sell to entities however noting that they were currently developing a private sector enterprise system which would attract the private sector.

He said they were under funded with their expenses at P39 million while BNPC was funded with P23 million.

However he noted that they installed a performance management system in government which was extended to councils adding that they commanded in the area of performance monitoring.

He highlighted that they could train people but it would not made a huge impact on the economic growth due to people's attitudes. Ends
