Funds put aside for hospital refurbishment

The Ministry of Health has put aside some funds for refurbishment of the Maun old hospital.
The coordinator of Ngami District Health Management Team (DHMT), Dr Christopher Chembe, confirmed in an interview that the proposed plan was submitted on August this year and funds had been secured.
He said the contractor had already visited the site to compile a report and was awaiting an approval from the ministry to commence the project.
However, in a kgotla meeting recently, some residents of Maun West complained that the hospital had been neglected since the construction of the new hospital.
They decried poor state of the facility, saying it was posing a danger to the lives of patients and workers. Residents said safety was questionable at the facility as there was no electricity.
Responding to complaints, Dr Chembe said they were aware of lack of electricity at the hospital. He said there was a delay to address the situation because they did not have a reliable maintenance agent to do the work.
He noted that efforts had been on going to put some lights in and outside the premises. Dr Chembe said the challenge was putting up big lights outsixe the premises but they have so far sought assistance from North West District Council. Ends
