Botswana Police Services hosted their Namibian counterparts to a medley of games over the weekend as a way of promoting bi-lateral relations between the two countries.
The regional sport officer from Namibia, Efraim Kashuupulwa said the games were about consolidating ties between Botswana Police Services and Namibian Police Services.
“These games give us an opportunity to share ideas on how to curb cross-border crimes and promote friendliness between the two states,” he said.
Botswana beat Namibia on every sporting code except netball. Botswana won 2-0 in football, 3-1 in men’s volleyball, 9-6 in pool, 2-0 in women’s volleyball and 19-1 in darts. In netball, Nambia beat Botswana 19 – 17. Botswana Police Services deputy commissioner, Tapudzani Gabolekwe emphasised that the games were for building a relationship between the two law enforcement agencies.
“This helps build relationships and create an enabling environment between the two countries when investigating criminal cases,” he noted.
Officer commanding for Chobe district, senior superintendent Mojaboswa Mathitha highlighted that cross border crimes such as break-ins needed collaboration between the two nations.
“This gives us a platform to interact at both junior and senior level as law enforcement officers from the two countries,” he said.
He added that so far crime has been low in the area because of the collaboration and cordial relationship between the two. Ends
