The Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale, has challenged the church to play its role in the development of the nation.

Mr Molale, who is also the patron of the Evangelical Religious Protestant Church (ERPC), said this during a donation ceremony in Kanye recently.

He said Botswana was a faith based nation, therefore the church should play a critical role to recommit Batswana to God as well as the values and principles that have served the nation well over time.

Minister Molale also challenged parents to mould children into God fearing and law abiding citizens. He stressed that the moral strength of a nation started with family.

He thanked Huawei, a leading lobal ICT solutions provider and Top 500 Chinese company for the donation of 40 000 stock bricks to ERPC.

The minister explained that the donation would enhance the prospect of the church building and make it particularly attractive to young people and lure them to God.  For his part, the Chinese ambassador, Mr Zheng Zhuqiang said the two nations have had relations characterised by friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial projects for the past 40 years.

He said the donation would benefit the community and the nation at large. 

Meanwhile, the deputy managing director of Huawei, Mr Gao Wenli said his company, through its corporate social responsibility strategy, had a vision to plough back to the communities where they operated.

He said the company had demonstrated the vision and determination through a number of projects such as bridging the digital divide, creating opportunities through education, promoting environmental sustainability, training for ICT talents and donating to the disadvantaged.

Through the donation, Mr Gao said  they wanted to enable the church, whose congregation had outgrown its old building, to provide a conducive environment for worship.

 

He said they have also partnered with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development for the annual academic excellence awards. Ends
