Leaders should empower - Malibala

Land board members across the country recently met for the 17th Biennial Botswana Association of Tribal Land Authorities (BATLA) conference.
Addressing the members, the executive director and founder of KDM Global Management Consulting Services and a board member of Tati Land Board, Ms Koziba Malibala said a leader should empower the right person to accomplish a task with appropriate direction, support and accountability.
She said sometimes leaders delegate wrong people, either because of their position or personalities. She advised them to delegate appropriately and to have confidence in themselves and others.
Ms Malibala stressed that leaders should be inspiring, adding that leaders do not see difficulties in a challenge, but rather see a challenge as an opportunity.
She cited communication as essential for leadership, stating that the best speakers were first rate communicators.
“If you want your business or organisation to succeed you must master the art of communication,” she said.
Furthermore, Ms Malibala said leaders need to have a mission, vision as well as values.
For her part, a board member of Malete Land Board who is also a motivational speaker, Ms Philda Kereng advised board members to maximise their services to gain experience. She said there were many opportunities that could develop their interpersonal skills, adding that they were appointed to make decisions, implement policies and manage land administration.
She also advised them to update their curriculum vitae through the experiences they gain. Sharing skills and knowledge adds value to the organisation, she said. Ends
