05 Oct 2015

Kgosi Masego Olebile of Palapye has raised concern over poor attendance at the Independence Day celebrations.

Speaking in Palapye kgotla on Independance Day, Kgosi Olebile said in the past years, the community came in large numbers to celebrate independence.

He said this was no longer the case as people preferred to celebrate this day with their families.

He said even though Independence Day was an important day in the country’s calendar, few people celebrated this day at the kgotla.

He said weddings and other festivities should not be held during this day.

For his part, MP for Palapye Mr Moiseraele Goya said it was important for Batswana to celebrate Independence Day.

He said before independence , this country was underdeveloped but government took upon itself to develop the country.

Mr Goya, who is also the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, said the country had made positive strides since independence.

He said government built 32 senior schools, 37 brigades, eight technical colleges, 10 colleges of education and universities.

He said 88 per cent of Batswana were able to read and write.

Meanwhile Morobosi Entertainment hosted its annual WeBechuana 2015 event at Camp Itumela featuring the likes of Kelly Khumalo from South Africa, DJ Rocco (France), Pilo-wa-Lehipi (RSA) and Fauz. ENDS
