05 Oct 2015

Kweneng District councillors have called for the utilisation of their public relations unit in tackling negative media reports.

The councillors made the plea when commenting on the speech presented by the council chairperson, Mr Jeffrey Sibisibi when opening the council meeting.

In his comments, the councillor for Mahetlwe, Mr Simon Maroane cautioned those who might be feeding journalists with information to desist. He said the public relations unit should be utilised to counter negative media reports.

Another councillor, Mr Palelo Motaosane of Thamaga North said it was time the council evaluated how it was doing things, saying something attracts the negative publicity.

He further said the council should use its public relations unit to open up and tackle negative media reports.

In his speech, Mr Sibisibi noted that the council continues to be accused of unlawful activities, adding that most of the accusations were without basis and misleading.

He said there were indications that internal sources within the council were feeding journalists with information, saying some of the information relates to contracts which were in the custody of their officers.

The council chairperson also warned that necessary action would be taken against anyone found to be the perpetrator. ENDS
