Committee gives to Kanye schools

05 Oct 2015

Kanye marathon organising committee has donated stationary to four primary schools in Kanye.

In an interview, one of the organisers, Ms Lesang Moloi, said they raised funds to donate stationery to these schools, particularly those that were identified through the help of Kanye Education Centre.  “The primary schools that we were working with are Makaba, Mokgadi, Matsaakgang and Logaba, they are all in Kanye”, she added.

She said they were able to buy school bags, books, crayons, and diaries among others.

She explained that there was a registration fee for the marathon participants for two categories being four kilometres going for P100 and eight kilometres for P120. She said the turnout was amazing as they did not expect a large number of participants because they were hosting it for the first time.

“We as organisers are humbled and privileged to be playing our part in helping Botswana to realize her vision of an educated and informed nation,” she added.

She continued that they wish next year the event would be bigger and better because they learnt from the first one.

Mrs Gloria Moletsane, the school head of Mokgadi Primary School said she feel honoured for her school to be one of the adopted, because the gifts they received came at the right time since they were running short of materials more especially books.

“I am very grateful because next year we are starting a preschool in our school so the crayons that we received here will be used by our pupils, she said.

She said as for the school bags they are going to be given to the less privileged students in their school.

One of the participants Lesogo Gautlwa said that the event is a very good initiative by Kanye youth and wished that the marathon could be held twice a year.

She said the event is not only about uplifting the physical and mental fitness of participants but rather is also a vehicle for giving back to the community. She expressed the wish to build the bright future for the country through the event noting that participants gained fitness skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. Ends
