KBL embraces new global goals
05 Oct 2015
Governments around the world have on September 25, officially adopted a set of global goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
Adoption was made at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit held in New York recently. In a press release, Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL) has affirmed its commitment to support the delivery of the goals.
Last year, KBL adopted a new sustainable development strategy, Prosper, which integrates sustainable development into the business through Five Shared Imperatives
The press release states that the imperatives tackle the five most material issues for their business which include accelerating growth and social development through “our value chains; making beer the natural choice for the moderate and responsible drinker; securing shared water resources for the business and local communities; creating value through reduced waste and carbon emissions and supporting responsible and sustainable use of land for brewing crops.”
Through Shared Imperatives and targets, the release says KBL has positioned itself to have a direct and powerful impact on a number of global goals.
For example, it says through SABMiller’s global commitment to support over half a million small businesses in their value chain to enhance their business growth and family livelihoods by 2020, they will contribute to global goals focused on ending poverty, achieving gender quality and supporting jobs and inclusive economic growth.
Other parts of Prosper contribute to global goals on water, climate change and responsible consumption.
Meanwhile, SABMiller chief executive officer, Mr Alan Clark, says in the release that through their business and partnerships, they are determined to take a leading role in demonstrating the way in which business can help tackle some of the world’s greatest challenges. Ends
