CAF fines BFA

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Botswana Football Association (BFA) US$5 000 (about P50 000) for pitch invasion.
Supporters invaded the pitch following Botswana’s 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso in Francistown recently. BFA president, Tebogo Sebego, confirmed the CAF decision in an interview.
The fine, he said, was a draw back since BFA was faced with financial constraints. “Players appearance fee is around P2 000 and P50 000 could pay at least 25 players. However, we are running around to pay CAF’s fine,” said Sebego.
He said the association would educate the public about the repercussions of pitch invasion. Most supporters, he said, were not aware of the implications of pitch invasion.
Sebego said BFA had requested Francistown authorities to assist the association in public education. Meanwhile, the BFA president confirmed that Francistown would host a world cup qualifier between Botswana and Eritrea in the evening of October 13.
“The fans are now aware that the association has been charged and they will fill up the stadium and after the last whistle they will celebrate properly”, Sebego said. ends
