Kweneng District councillors have called for utilisation of the council’s public relations unit in tackling negative media reports. 

The councillors said this when commenting on the speech presented by the council chairperson, Mr Jeffrey Sibisibi, recently. 

In his comments, councillor for Mahetlwe, Mr Simon Maroane, cautioned those who might be feeding journalists with the council’s information to desist from that, adding that the public relations unit should be used to counter negative media reports.

Another councillor, Mr Palelo Motaosane of Thamaga North said the council must evaluate how it was doing things. 

He further said the council should use its public relations unit to open up.

In his speech, Mr Sibisibi had noted that Kweneng District Council continued to receive accusation from the media most of which was without basis and misleading.  

He said there were indications that internal sources within the council were feeding journalists with information, saying some of this information related to contracts that were in custody of the council officers. 

The council chairperson further warned that necessary action would  be taken against anyone identified as the perpetrator. Ends
