HRDC encourages Moeti students
28 Sep 2015
Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) executive coordinator, Mr Matthews Phiri has encouraged Moeti Junior Secondary School students in Maun to be committed to their academic work.
Speaking at the school recently, Mr Phiri said although Moeti took position one in the North West region in 2014, results were not satisfactory with poor performance in Mathematics and Science. He reminded students that the learning process rested upon themselves while teachers were only facilitators.
Mr Phiri said government had realised the importance of vocational education and training in employment creation and economic growth.
He pointed that it would be introduced in secondary schools curriculum in the near future. Further, he said HRDC had a human resource sector, a platform that promoted dialogue on careers in respective regions.
Also, he noted that the North West region was dominated by the tourism sector, a second income generator in Botswana.
Thus, Mr Phiri said the tourism sector should be developed in areas of aircrafts, hotel management career fields, which currently had few skilled Batswana. Artefacts such as basketry, leather works, pottery and wood work also needed skills development in order to create employment. Ends
