Sankoyo go past Nico

27 Sep 2015

Maun -based Sankoyo Bush Bucks thrashed Selebi-Phikwe’s favourite Nico United 1-0 at Maun Sports Complex over the weekend.

The encounter between the two sides which have been both struggling to make a mark in the elite league was not appealing as one would have expected.

Despite the large crowd of spectators, the game started on a very low note with both teams showing no eagerness to pocket maximum points.

The second half saw a highly revitalised Sankoyo dominating the game by creating many chances but failed to convert them into goals.

Sankoyo appeared to wake up after making some substitution that introduced the likes of Rodney Buka, Botshelo Mafoko, and Gaongalelwe Dipateletso added a spark into the game.

The Ngurungu boys scored the only goal of the match in the 80th minute through Thero Sessile from a pass by Morris Ruzivo.

It seemed Setsile’s goal motivated Ngurungu side as they started piling pressure on the Majombolo’s defence, causing a lot of confusion in the middle field but were not lucky to score.

In an interview, the wining care taker coach, Terrence Modikwe said their game plan is coming together noting that his team has been failing to collect results because they did not have the pre-season games.

He noted that they worked hard for the game as they knew Nico has experienced coach and players who could give his boys hard time.

“We did not take this game for granted hence we managed to collect maximum points,” he added. He also appreciated the fact that the game started at a low tempo because of the heat.

Nico United assistant coach, Duncan Tshegofatso said his boys were not creative in the first half because of the heat.

He said they managed to pick up the tempo in the second half but they failed to utilise the chances they created. Tshegofatso also revealed that even their opponents raised the tempo after making some substitution which introduced players like Buka who managed to run at his boys.

He said Sankoyo appeared dangerous after making several substitution and managed to penetrate his defenders and got a goal. “If we could have carried out our plan to the letter, I believe we could have collected  three points. I was also worried about the assistant referee as he called for offside in every move my boys made,” he added.  ENDS
