Mochudi Rovers good deed pays off
22 Sep 2015
The good deed which Mochudi Rovers undertook before their game with Letlapeng recently by visiting the children’s ward at Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital paid handsomely as they emerged victorious by winning the home game 2-1.
This was part of the clubs social responsibility which was intended to make it more relevant to its community. The club teamed up with Nutri Feeds and Mochudi Spar to give the children a memorable day. The brand manager, Hazael Lekoko said as a community club they were looking at giving back to the community in various ways so as to grow the image of the club.
He said they got support from local business enterprises who were interested in their initiative, as they gave the children various toys for their amusement even though they may be in pain.
He said Mochudi Spar offered toys for the children and together with Nutri Feeds provided the breakfast meal. This proved to be a good initiative as both teams provided spectators with a good game of football with Mochudi Rovers proving a determined lot as they visited Letlapeng goal area regularly.
Rovers ripped their reward for their good deed as they became victorious with a 2-1 win courtesy of Koketso Mphokothi’s brace over Letlapeng while Thabang Kgamanyane’s consolation goal came deep in the second half.
He said they chose the hospital because they wanted to acknowledge the work that was being done by the nurses and also because 90 per cent of their players were born at the hospital.
Lekoko said they also had a word of prayer for the children to comfort them and prepare them for healing. He said the players also had a chance to interact and play with the children and had breakfast with them. He said they wanted to associate themselves with the different charity organisations in Kgatleng and in future would visit other organisations and they would also like to invite them to some of their home games.
Lekoko further said such an initiative would build the brand of the club as people would be able to associate with it and make it more popular like Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
This, he said, would help with the welfare of the players as they want the time they spend at training and games to be more valuable for their future.
He said they held a dinner with the parents of the players as a way to solicit support from them to make the management of the players easier, and also for them to take interest and understand the importance of the sport. He said once people in the community have been enticed by their efforts, they would start with their membership drive.
He also said they have honoured their founding father, the late Kgosi Linchwe II with the club’s t-shirt and other members of the royal family.
He said in order to create a good atmosphere for their home games they were looking at different initiatives that they would roll out for all their home games.
During their game against Letlapeng, they had invited the Sedibelo Choir to entertain spectators as folk music was synonymous with Bakgatla to create a vibe that would help supporters to rally behind the club and increase the motivation of the players. Ends
