Prisons VI triumph over Kalavango

Prisons VI men volleyball team continued in their quest to win the second round of the Mascom Volleyball league games as they triumphed over Kalavango men volleyball team in Lobatse on Saturday September 19.

Though both teams showed tenacity and experience on the ball in the field, it was however Prisons men who fought hard to grab the game by a point difference to win the game 3-2. It was a battle on the field from the minute the referee blew the whistle to signal the beginning of the toughest game of the day, as both teams stood tough against each other.

The two teams stuck to each other’s neck as they went point to point throughout the first set, with a point difference until Kalavango took over the first set with a 25-19 point difference.

The win over the first set seemed to give Kalavango more confidence on the ball as they had it easy to maneuver around.

However, Prisons men equalised by winning the second set with a 25-21 point difference.

Good service from Prisons gave the team the advantage over Kalavango which had less attacks offering Prisons more power to attack and score points. Starting the third set on equal points it was the battle of the titans with each team having to prove its mettle, as both teams went neck to neck on a single point difference as the set continued.

With a tie score of 25 each, the teams continued until Prisons ended the set with 27 points, giving Prisons a lead of 2 -1.

The game was not an easy one to tell, as to which team will get the fourth set as both teams showed determination and zeal to win the fourth set.

At 23-15 in favour of Kalavango, poor sets by Prisons had Kalavango taking advantage and winning the fourth set to equalise the score to have both teams at 2-2, leading the game to the fifth and deciding set.

Prisons men, however were not deterred by Kalavango, but rather put a sterling performance by starting the set on a good point as they left Kalavango on a nine points difference. Kalavango players got disoriented and lost a bit of confidence as Prisons men went hard on them with more attacks and spikes which they could not easily block.

The deciding set had Prisons scoring more than Kalavango to win the game by a 3-2 difference score.

In an interview, Kalavango coach, Isaac Tengelani acknowledged that Prisons gave his players tough time in the field as they had better attacks than his team. For his part, the winning coach, Kealeboga Pebe congratulated his boys for putting up a sterling performance and executing the game as planned. Ends
