Constituency games unearth talent

01 Sep 2015

Constituency tournaments have proved to be of importance as they unearth raw talent. This was said by Bokspits United ladies volleyball coach, Hendrick Magalie in an interview recently.

He said constituency games provide a platform to select future players.

“The main aim of these games is to improve sporting talent in the country and scout for talent from the outskirts of the country,” he said.

However, Magalie decried the minimal attendance of scouters to games in Kgalagadi South, especially the Boravast area. He explained that since the games started they have not had any player called for trials for possible inclusion into the national teams.

“We do have very good players who we believe would make the national team, and therefore I urge scouters to make time to come and explore talent in our area,” he said.

Magalie said although scouting for talent is minimal, he is proud of his team. “Besides this, I have a committed team which still attends practices and play to their full potential in our ward games,” he added. He also said the games have helped in keeping the youth off the streets.

“They are also a good source of income for most youth because from the little money they get, most are able to fend for themselves,” he said.

John Rautenbach, assistant coach for Bokspits United concurred with Magalie, noting that the last time they had a player progress was with Kaone van der Westhuizen, who is now an Under-23 national team player and Letlapeng FC in Ramotswa . “We have had men sector come and talk about some good players we have, but nothing has been done to take them for trials,” he added.
