Gunners maintain momentum

Extension Gunners maintained their unbeaten record after walloping Gaborone United 2-1 in a be Mobile Premiership league game at the National Stadium on Saturday (August 29) evening.
The clearly determined Mapantsula showed their intentions of winning the game as early as first minute of the game when Mogomotsi Mokoka pushed for a goal. Although GU had an upper hand in the first half, luck was not on their side as in the 11th minute Mandla Mgadla left with only the goalkeeper to beat ballooned what could have been the opening goal for Moyagoleele.
In the 13th minute, Gunners won a corner which was well taken resulting in Amos Godirwang converting it to make it one nil.
Two minutes after Gunners goal, GU suffered a major blow after their free scoring Namibia international, Benson Shilongo sustained an injury and the paramedics rushed him to the hospital.
However, GU did not lose hope as they continued moving forward looking for an equaliser, with their “no retreat, no surrender” attitude as in the 35th minute Thato Ogopotse received a cross from Mpho Kgaswane and headed it straight to equalise.
The goal seemed to have rubbed Mapantsula the wrong side as they piled more pressure on Moyagoleele. However, GU’s resistance did not last as in the first minute into second half while GU was still trying to settle, Moemedi ‘Jomo’ Moatlhaping managed to squeeze a second goal for Gunners to make it 2-1.
GU tried hard to equalise but that was not to be as Gunners’ defense was not in any compromising mood to let GU share with the spoils with them. In the 60th minute, GU defender Godwin Bonsu was dismissed for a second bookable offence on his debut leaving the team with only 10 men.
At the end of the game as Gunners’ coach, Pio Paul celebrated, his counterpart, Rahman Gumbo was in pain, snubbed the media and walked straight to the dressing rooms without giving a post-match interview.
Paul told BOPA after the game that he was happy with the game tactics, adding that he knew the team will win the game from the midfield. He further said he was happy with his players’ performance, saying they started well and could have long won the game in the first half but his players gave their opponents a lot of respect.
The results therefore, means Extension Gunners is still at the top of the log having played four games without a lose. Ends
