Jungle Kings continue good start
31 Aug 2015
Despite skating on thin ice for the better part of the second half, Police XI held on to their impressive start in the beMOBILE premiership against the threatening Sankoyo Bush Bucks under the floodlight at the Molepolole sports complex on recently.
In an entertaining game though riddled with hard tackles, Ngurungu only have themselves to blame for letting Police XI put the game too far beyond, only to arise from their slumber too late in the game and threatened to reverse the 0-3 deficit.
Despite Ngurungu having a better game in the midfield and attack, it was the home team that opened the score sheet on the 33rd minute through the towering Pheyo Molefe as he drove home a Tapiwa Gadibolae free-kick.
The Jungles Kings then carried this slim lead into recess, but came back a better team, immediately threatening in the opening minutes of the second half, with Ogomoditse Sitang increasing the advantage within eight minutes.
Four minutes later, the constant pressure by the Jungle Kings was rewarded further as Molefe claimed his second of the game when he nodded home inside the box to make it 3-0. With that margin, Police XI might have thought the points were secured, but the tables started turning after substitute, Thato Monowe slotted what many would have thought to be a consolation goal in the 66th minute after Police XI shot-stopper Bokamoso Moeba fumbled a across.
The goal gave Ngurungu hope and kept Police XI faithfuls on the edge of their seats. Their situation worsened in the 75th minute when another substitute, Gosaitse Manuel slotted home after an excellent move by Morris Ruzivo.
The last 15 minutes must have been the longest to Police XI as the visitors kept them under constant pressure, which saw them resorting to time wasting tactics. Ruzivo should have earned the visitors an equaliser with four minutes of regular time left, but with only Moeba to beat, the evergreen striker shot straight at the keeper. The result means the Jungle Kings have not lost a game since the premiership started.
Meanwhile Gilport Lions are still on the hunt for their first ever goal of the premiership. The Lobatse based outfit played to a goalless draw in a dull game against defending champions, Mochudi Centre Chiefs on Friday night at the Molepolole sports complex.
So far, Gilport Lions have fired blanks in all their first four games, and the draw against Chiefs earned them their first-ever point of the premiership. Gilport lost 0-2 in their opening game against Gaborone United before succumbing by the same scoreline in the Lobatse derby the following week.
They then lost by a solitary goal away to Miscellaneous in Serowe before the 0-0 stalemate with Chiefs, and with their game against the on form Police XI, the Lobatse lads should start worrying about their position on the log standings. Ends
