The general manager of Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM)  Alan Breen has said that sports build a competitive spirit in players and teaches them to make a contribution irrespective of whether the participation results in victory or defeat.

Speaking during the Debswana Games prize giving ceremony held in Orapa on Sunday August 16,  Breen stated that sport involves competition, winning and losing, thus exposing players to the leadership aspects of success.

“Playing sport teaches one to accept both success and failure in a positive light,” he said. Breen noted that the main reason of holding the Debswana Games include promoting Debswana employees’ interaction and wellness through a sporting culture as well as encouraging long lasting relationships among Debswana employees and their families.

He said that the initiative was part of Debswana’s commitment towards sensitising its employees on issues of health through sports activities. This, he said, would propel the company to great heights and sharpen the competitiveness of the miner’s employees.

Breen said playing sport is beneficial in the development of social skills in a person, adding that it fosters collective thinking and develops planning skills. He said playing sport nourishes and strengthens the body and soul, instils self -discipline, teamwork and inculcates a drive to excel.

Breen said that there is no doubt that the success witnessed is the result of the good investment of spirit, time and talent. He urged all to prepare well on time in 2016 so that Debswana Games could be elevated to a whole new level.
