Sorprano Bikers donate to Tobane

Dr Kim’s annual golf tournament was held in Selebi Phikwe over the weekend. 

The tournament took place from July 30 to August 1. Other activities included handing over of hampers to the needy in Tobane by Soprano Bikers from South Africa. 

In an interview, Thabo Mathebula who is the president of the Sopranos, said they were giving hampers to the elderly people in Tobane to appreciate them. He also stated that in the past six years, they had been giving out hampers to less privileged children around the country.

Thabo Chamme, spokesperson for Dr Kim’s Foundation, stated that the initiative started six years ago as a way to honour Dr Kim who was the first medical doctor to provide free medical care to cancer patients in Francistown.

He said Dr Kims Foundation did charity work around the country and mostly in Francistown. He explained that the Soprano Bikers saw it fit to play a role in the charity work they did and decided to come aboard and partnered with the foundation in helping the needy through the donations of food and clothing among other things. 

He said since the establishment of Dr Kim’s Foundation, golf tournaments in his honour had been held as a charity event to raise funds for less privileged. 

Kgosi Nametso Mothasediof Tobane expressed gratitude to Kim’s foundation for choosing her village . She explained that some elderly people in her village lived in poverty and relied on government for support.

The chairman of the Selebi Phikwe Golf Club, Harold Van Zyl acknowledged Dr Kim’s Foundation and the Soprano Bikers for the good gesture. 

He also commended those who took part in the golf tournament. He called on residents of the town to support the initiative and to also attend the event in large numbers.

During the golf tournament on Friday, Kabo Kemoreile of Kasane came first with 41 points, followed by Oganeditse Marata representing Selebi Phikwe with 39 points while Marius Swartz also from Selebi Phikwe took the third spot with 38 points. 

Marius Swartz obtained position one with 43 points, Mogolodi Tobedza from Francistown came in second with 41 points while Gabriel Tjitjo from Selebi Phikwe took the third spot with 40 points. 

At the event renowned Jazz DJ, Source Katumbela, Oldies music DJ Clarence and jazz artist Shanti Lo entertained guests.  Ends
