BFA in good standing with FIFA
02 Aug 2015
Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego, says the association remains in good standing with world football governing body FIFA, COSAFA and CAF.
Addressing the BFA annual general assembly, Sebego said he was serving in FIFA’s marketing and television rights committee.
He said the former BFA president, David Fani, was doing good work in COSAFA, adding that BFA would support Fani’s candidature in COSAFA should he wish to continue.
Sebego said BFA affiliation with CAF was also in good standing and some of their members continued to serve in various capacities, adding that the national team was participating in various CAF competitions.
In other issues, he said plans were underway to submit FIFA Goal project four, which will be hosted by the Francistown Region Football Association at the old stadium or any available venue depending on readiness of the lease agreement as required by FIFA.
Sebego said the association had already addressed the Francistown City Council on the acquisition of the old stadium, although the acquisition was still pending.
Talking about the recent arrest of some FIFA officials in Zurich, Sebego said that alone affected the image of the game worldwide.
“Although this is a concerning development, it is our hope that reforms will be accelerated and that football shall be the winner at the end,” he said.
Talking about the commercialisation of Lekidi football centre, Sebego said in the previous year, they identified a hospitality partner, but they then realised that it would be expensive for the association given that all national teams had competitions and therefore needed to use the facility.
He said it was important for them not to lose focus on the key usage of the facilities although they needed to drive profits. That should not be at the expense of the national teams preparations.
Furthermore, Sebego said the BFA finance department was tasked with the responsibility of coming up with a project proposal for the development of the facility in line with the empowerment strategy. Ends
