Primeone takes Mophato under its wings

13 Jul 2015

Primeone cleaning services company has adopted the cleaning of Mophato Primary School’s kitchen through the Ministry of Education and Development Skills Adopt-A-School initiative.

The two year contract with the school would cost the company P52 000.

The deputy director for basic education, Mr Seroro Ramahobo said the aim of the initiative is to facilitate public and private sector participation in the delivery of quality education in public schools.

He said primary schools are non-profit making organisations therefore depend much on their Parents Teachers Association to run their activities including developing their structures.

“It is in this regard that the ministry realised the importance of stakeholder participation in the education system hence adopt a school initiative” he said during the launch of the Mophato adoption.

Mr Ramahobo stated that the key resolution being to utilise the vast amount of human resource, expertise and talents of individuals and business community, adding that with that kind of relationship it would benefit the stakeholders in strengthening and enriching the quality of education in public schools.

He emphasised the importance of making sure that public schools are operated effectively, a thing he said was a challenging responsibility faced by his ministry.  He noted that in order to operate effectively it should entail amongst others providing a healthy eating environment.

Mr Ramahobo stressed the importance of providing a healthy environment for the school children by cleaning the school’s kitchen.

He applauded Primeone for the services they have seen very important to give to primary schools. He said he was aware that it was not only Mophane that they have adopted but some schools on the same line, Mophane being the second school.

He said Primone’s efforts have largely contributed to archieving one of the Millenium Development Goals relating to health for all and Vision 2016.

He added that the adoption came at an appropriate time, noting that it coincided with the partnership campaign that exists between ministries of health and that of education.

The campaign, he said addresses neglected tropical diseases which have become a silent killer to both public and education.

Mr Ramahobo took his word to the school management, teachers and parents for doing a great job for marketing the school. He said it was a good venture with efforts created to producing globally competitive personnel.

For his part, the managing director of Primeone Company, Gabson Mazonde stressed the importance of having clean kitchens. He said his company’s mandate aimed to improve the standard of kitchens in the country with an idea of fulfilling one of the country’s vision 2016 pillars.

Mr Mazonde was quick to point out the need to take good care of school kitchens, adding that his observation was that kitchens in Botswana are poorly managed.

He said his mandate is to deal with the cleaning ventilation system in kitchens.

He said systems needed professional cleaning, stating that the fumes extracted from kitchens were very dangerous therefore need to be disposed well. The fumes extracted when not dealt with might cause illness to people especially non-communicable diseases.

He said they therefore found it important to adopt public schools like Mophato primary, since they have such systems which might pose a health hazard to children if not taken good care of. Ends
