Botswana ideal business destination

07 Apr 2013

DHL Company's sub-Saharan Africa managing director, Mr Charles Brewer considers Botswana a key market within the company’s strategy to continue its expansion and investment.

Addressing the media in Gaborone on Friday, Mr Brewer said he regarded Botswana as a strategic business hub for the company and its operations in Africa.

“Botswana is an attractive market for us as its stable economic growth rate makes it a viable country for global investment,” he said. Mr Brewer said they had seven service points across Botswana with, but they had plans to increase them.

He noted that DHL was ready to expand into the rural areas and to work with third party retailers to locate DHL facilities in their places of operation, which would enable rural business operators to operate smoothly.

“I therefore believe that the engine for growth in Africa and Botswana are the small and medium enterprises which are doing business domestically and have an opportunity to go global and when that happens, these businesses face huge opportunities,” he said.

Although Botswana was not doing well according to the global connectedness report,  Mr Brewer noted that it was the fastest improving region in import and exports as well as moving money in finance and trade and moving information in technology.

He also noted that Africans had a rapidly growing disposable income which meant they had buying power.
