Standard Chartered BAC launch business competition
07 Apr 2013
Standard Chartered Bank Botswana in collaboration with Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) on April 5 launched the first business simulation competition.
The business simulation would be tested by the BAC students as a four-week long competition from April 10.
The initiative aimed at giving participating students an opportunity to gain unique and essential business experience through sophisticated real time business simulations.
The computer-based simulation would give the students experience in developing and implementing strategies while the students would run their companies in a competitive IT market setting against other teams.
Six teams of 6-8 BAC students would participate in the competition based on the Marketplace-Live Business Simulation Game.
Speaking at the launch, Standard Chartered head of origination and client coverage, Mr Mike Shirley said the entrepreneurial edge was an experience that the students might find useful after graduation.
Mr Shirley said there was need to encourage students to think beyond seeking employment once they graduated, adding that entrepreneurial thinking had potential to create opportunities for the graduate.
However, Mr Shirley said at Standard Chartered, they believed in empowering the youth of the country and also strived to equip young people with the necessary skills and experience that would adequately prepare them to tackle challenges they might meet in their careers.
“By investing in the youth, we are investing and securing a better tomorrow for our country, as we gather to launch the entrepreneurial edge simulation game, we are bearing witness to efforts required to ensure growth and capacity of our young people,” he said. ENDS
