Ngurungu plead for financial assistance

01 Jul 2015

Kgosi Gothaang Moalosi of Sankoyo is appealing for sponsorship from the business community in the North West District towards the survival of the area’s only team in the premier league.

Kgosi Moalosi said Sankoyo Bush Bucks went through hard times in the just ended season as they finished the league without a sponsor despite the fact that businesses had experienced growth since the team was promoted to the elite league.

Pleading during the 2015 awards ceremony to recognise efforts made by Ngurungu players, Kgosi Moalosi said it was surprising that the team should be struggling to secure a sponsor yet it came from a rich tourism area.

“People outside are also surprised why the team cannot get a sponsor yet it exists in an area where there are lots of investors in the lucrative tourism sector,” he added

The traditional leader said although the Sankoyo Tshwaragano Development Trust supported the team financially, the support was not enough to take care of the players’ welfare.

He thanked the boys for their loyalty and hard work during difficult circumstances, adding that the management had approached several companies requesting for financial assistance to no avail.

He opined that it could be possible that their approach was not right as most of the management members lacked knowledge of running a football team as a business.

However, he assured supporters that the management had learned a lot and would try by all means to do the right thing in the next season to avoid the mistakes that cost the team a spot in the Top 8.

The deputy council chair, Lathang Molonda said despite the difficult times that the team went through, they were proud that they had put the region on the map through their sterling performance.
Molonda said they had demonstrated that the region was rich in talent and that sport was growing tremendously in the area.

He advised the team management to familiarise themselves with the rules, regulations and the laws of football to avoid the mistakes they made in the last season where the team was docked some vital points and goals.

He urged the players to refrain from social ills which he said could ruin their future, adding that sport needed disciplined players as it could open good opportunities for them.

Maun Supporters Club chairperson, Samuel Rankalo thanked all the companies and individuals who contributed meaningfully to the success of the event.

He also thanked the organisers for a job well done and assured them of great support from the club through thick and thin. Ends
