First division wants powers to negotiate

Chairperson of First Division South League (FDSL), Sam Keitireng, says time has come for their league to be part of negotiations of their sponsorship.
This came after delegates of the league’s annual general assembly decried that they were in the dark concerning their Debswana sponsorship package.
Jwaneng Galaxy communications manager, Kealeboga Ramogobya had complained that Debswana was not visible at the grounds and their branding was questionable.
“There are a lot of things which are not clear regarding Debswana sponsorship. This is caused by the fact that we do not have a board and Botswana Football Association negotiates in our behalf. For the First Division to grow we need to have our own Board like the Premier League,” he said.
Keitireng assured the assembly that since the Debswana sponsorship was coming to an end, he has already talked to BFA president alerting him that it would be prudent for First Division to be part of the negotiating team.
The chairperson further expressed concern that in the last four seasons, no team from the FDSL was successful during the Premier League playoffs.
He said he was of the view that their failure was perpetuated by lack of support from other teams in the league.
“We need to support each other and that is when we would see our teams graduating to the elite league. I believe our league is very competitive, but it is only that we are not there to support each other,” he said.
Keitireng further welcomed relegated Notwane and the two promoted teams Mochudi Rovers and Black Rangers to the FDSL.
FDSL Secretary, Sidney Magagane briefed the assembly about the migration from Registration Books to Identity Cards. He said no “blue books” would be used next season.
He said the ID cards expires every year, therefore they should brace to renew them every year. Ends
