Botswana Premier League (BPL) chief executive officer, Bennet Mamelodi, says Township Rollers recorded the highest league and cup revenue of P1. 2 million  over 15 games.

Briefing the BPL special general assembly, Mamelodi said the side managed to pocket P210 924 during their five games in the Mascom Top 8 competition.

He said another team that made impressive revenue was new comers, Sankoyo Bush Bucks, as they recorded P953 420 over 15 home matches.

The CEO, however, said more needed to be done to tackle revenue leakages at the gates. Mamelodi further said that they had a league product that they believed was entertaining and competitive.

He was confident that the league would also help Botswana grow its footballing footprint and bring commercial success to the game.

He said the BPL is at an advanced stage of talks with their title sponsor, be Mobile regarding rebranding the league. He said an aggressive commercial strategy will be finalised soon.

Furthermore, he said BPL had embraced the spirit of partnership and therefore it was no longer about what the partnership can do for either party, but rather about how much more can be done to improve the revenue streams of clubs.

Talking about disciplinary matters, he said on Friday BPL chief prosecutor, Tshiamo Rantao, charged  Notwane Football Club on one count of misconduct, which relates to breach of BFA and FIFA statutes against taking a football dispute to court.

Regarding Sankoyo Bush Bucks’ issue of using a defaulter, he said it was also referred to the BPL prosecutor on instruction of the BFA National Executive Committee.

He said according to the prosecutor’s summary, the club was indeed guilty but it is not legally permissible to punish it twice for the same conduct. Ends
