Masimolole aware of computer situation at Bathoen JSS

02 Apr 2013

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole says he is aware that Bathoen Junior Secondary School in Kanye has 30 computers which have been placed in storage following power surge that caused electrical damage to the computer laboratory.

When answering a question in Parliament, Mr Masimolole said the school was undergoing cyclic maintenance and power would be restored.

He indicated that the ministry was aware that computers added value to the teaching/learning environment and subsequently improved students' performance.

In recognition of the importance of computers to learning, he said they had directed that every school in the country should have a computer lab with 45 computers.

Mr Masimolole said after completion of the computer laboratory, Bathoen Junior Secondary School would be assisted with replacement of any affected computers in the new financial year 2013/2014.

MP for Kanye North, Mr Kentse Rammidi had asked him if he was aware that the school did not have computers for use by students even though subjects were computer based.

Mr Rammidi asked how lack of computers affected the learning and performance of the students and when they intended to provide computers to this school. ENDS
