Tsaone Sebele and Baboloki Thebe displayed sterling performances during the Botswana Athletics Association national championships at the University of Botswana over the week-end.

Thebe,  the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics 200metres silver medallist, showed his intensions clear when he won the heats.

In the 100 metres heats, Thebe finished on position one clocking 10:64 followed by Shongwe Malaudvo of Swaziland with 10:71 while position three went to Vincent Basima of Good Hope with 10:85.

In the final, Thebe faced a strong opposition Keene Motukisi, Fanuel Kenosi and Vincent Basima, but it was Thebe who touched the finish line first with 10:50, beating both Kenosi, and Motukisi to be crowned the 100 metre champion.

Thebe continued to torment other athletes in the 200 metres, when the spectators thought he was going to be given a hard time by veteran Gaone ‘Lux ‘ Maotoanong, that was not the case because although he was on injury he showed a lot of character in the track and finished first, recording 20:68.

Lux finished on position two with 20:91 while on position three was Karabo Mothibi, Thebe tsaid  he was happy with his performance despite the fact that he entered the 200 metre finals with an injury.

He said he had wanted to improve his time but he was let down by the injury, adding that he will continue to work very hard to improve all his time.

Just last week Baboloki in Sports View International meet, he ran the second fastest time this year in juniors in the world recording 20.58.

In the ladies category Tsaone Sebele continued where she left last weekend when she easily won both the 100 and 200 metres championship.

The 400 metres men gold medal was won by Gaone Maotoanong with 45:85, followed by Sakaria Kamberuka with 46:01, the bronze medal went to Karabo Sibanda with 46:22.

One of the interesting battle was at 800 metres men final, when veteran Shererd Kenatshele was beaten hands down, but the new kid on the block Boitumelo ‘Samachana’ Masilo.

Although Samachana finished first with 1:49:12 followed by Kenatshele, the veteran athlete suffered a major blow when he was disqualified for pushing the youthful Samachana during the race, his position two was then awarded to Daniel Nghipandulwa of Namibia followed by Isaac Seoke.
