31 May 2015

Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale, has urged government departments to work together to improve the livelihoods of people they serve.

Addressing members of the Hukuntsi Sub-district Development Committee on May 28, Mr Molale said government was committed to bringing services to all Batswana and a productive civil service was key to accomplish such undertaking.

He emphasised the importance of government departments in rural areas to work cohesively and direct all their efforts and activities towards nation building and achieving better quality for poverty stricken communities in settlements hence the need to work in harmony.

He said the start of community empowering programme was clear testimony that it had been government’s role to create an enabling environment to all Batswana to realise their full socio-economic potential and contribute to building a unified nation.

Thus, he said, it should be in the interest of all government departments in rural areas to ensure that they worked hand in hand in bringing services to all communities because that would be a step in the right direction towards uplifting them from poverty.

Again, he said it was also importance for government departments to share resources owing to shortages in out-stations. Mr Molale further warned public officers to refrain from actively participating in party politics, saying that was in conflict the Public Service Act.

“In terms of the Public Service Act No. 30 of 2008, public officers are prohibited from among other things, speaking publicly, demonstrating for or against any political party or politician; being an active member, or holding office in any political party, and publishing his or her views on political matters in writing,” he said.

Further, he urged public servants to provide excellent services to their clients at all times regardless of their political party affiliation.

Kgalagadi North Member of Parliament, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi applauded public servants in his constituency for their dedication in providing services to the community despite their day to day challenges.

Mr Moipisi was also pleased that the majority of constituents had access to almost all government facilities and services, hence applauded public servants for their endless efforts in rendering services to the community.

Nonetheless, he implored government to quickly replace transferred staff in his constituency. Ends
