Nswazwi woman turns to morula

02 Apr 2013

The indigenous morula tree fruit has been described as one of the most flavored juicy drinks liked by many.

A retired primary school head-teacher, Mrs Gracious Masalila said in an interview recently that she makes the drink out of the fruit, which she collects from the nearby farms or even outside her base area of Nswazwi.

Since she retired from the teaching service in 2005, the idea of making morula juice was always on her mind.

The morula fruit is readily available during the months of February when it starts falling off from the mother tree until the beginning of April.

She said although she was in competition with goats, which eat the fruit once it falls off, she has found a solution of going early in the morning before goats are released from their kraals.

The juice maker has appealed for support so that she can grow her business, especially that more people can make a living out of it.

She highlighted that her drink is preferred by many locals, who buy the drink in abundance.

Mr Tinao Moseki, one of the local elders, said he enjoys the morula drink because it is very palatable. Mr Ngewani Malike shared the same sentiments, adding that it quenches thirst. ENDS
