Minister aware of acute need for sanitation facilities

27 Mar 2013

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi says he is aware of acute need for sanitation facilities in the post offices in the Kgalagadi South constituency.

However, Mr Molefhi said they were unable to erect such facilities due to financial constraints.

In mitigation of the constraints to avoid issues of congestion during payments of old age pension payments, he said payments were made from the first to the last day of the month. He noted that for areas where there were no post offices, payments were made at dikgotla and postal agencies.

He said beneficiaries have been informed and were encouraged to receive payments from any post office in the country.

On other issues, he said mail volumes and business generated through Makopong and Draaihoek justified opening of a fully fledged post office. He said they were unable to commit any timeliness for the construction of the post office due to financial constraints.

He said they will continually review their network and strategies to establish the feasibility of providing postal services to those localities that are without fully fledged post offices.

Kgalagadi South MP, Mr John Toto had asked the minister if he is aware that post offices in Kgalagadi South constituency do not have toilets and as a result, old-age pensioners suffer when they come for their monthly payments.

Mr Toto said if so, what was going to be done to rectify this problem and when a post office in Makopong and Draaihoek would be built. ENDS
