Plateau Primary School’s top performers from last year’s Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) were treated to a three-hour boat cruise courtesy of African Odyssey.

Nineteen students, now doing Form One, made part of the expected 26 who obtained A and B.

Of the 19 was 12-year-old Prudence Gakedineelwe who obtained an overall grade A with three As, three Bs and a C.Though she was not particularly pleased with her performance, Gakedineelwe said she was in no position to question God on his decisions concerning her life.

“I believe that God did this to prepare me for better performance in my Junior exams,” she said. Being a good speaker and with a heart to help people, she aspires to be a lawyer and is aiming for a merit in her form three exams to ensure that she is one step closer to making her dreams come true.

Her mother, she said is supportive of her education as she takes part in Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) meetings and pops up in school to check her progress unannounced.

Sharing advice for her peers, she noted that the key to staying focused is to put all trust in God and to ensure that the focus is on education and not anything else distractive.
Another top performer, 16 year old Cedric Sethebe got A overall with 3As and 5Bs. Like Prudence, he was not pleased with his results either.

He said he was expecting 5As at the very least. Sethebe has now devised a study timetable which he said he follows religiously.“I have two other students who make up our study group so we follow the same study timetable,” he said.

Though has never been inside a plane, he aspires to be a pilot. His parents are also playing an active role in his education by ensuring that he follows his timetable and attending to PTA meetings. Deputy school head, Ms Judith Mswela expressed disappointment at the group’s standard seven results in which only seven students obtained A while 19 got B.

“I am happy though that parents have been very involved throughout and understanding whenever we had gone to them requiring students for extra lessons,” she said.

An education model in which all the three are involved including the student, teacher and parents yields positive results, she observed. She was however grateful that they found a sponsor for their top performers this year and was hopeful that this will not be a once off sponsorship from African Odyssey. Ends
