About 21 primary schools in maintenance schedule
26 Mar 2013
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has planned maintenance of 21 primary schools and three Remote Area Dwellers hostels at Mosu, Kedia and Mokubilo in Boteti during the 2013/14 financial year using the recurrent budget.
Answering a question in Parliament, Minister Peter Siele said facilities included in the maintenance schedule are teachers’ quarters, administration blocks, council staff houses and toilets and replacement of security fences.
However, Mr Siele said he had indicated in his response to question No. 76 of November 14, 2012 that his ministry had no budget for electrification of facilities during NDP 10.
Meanwhile, he said the Ministry of Education and Skills Development through the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources has paid Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) funds for the connection of eight primary schools and 164 staff houses and classrooms to the BPC grid.
He said the primary schools are in Makalamabedi, Motopi, Moreomaoto, Khumaga, Toromoja, Mosu, Mmatshumo and Mokubilo.
He said the connection for the above mentioned schools and staff houses is expected to be completed by August 2013.
The minister however explained that the facilities that will not be electrified due to budget constraints during the NDP 10 include kgotla offices and staff houses in the villages of Makalamabedi, Motopi, Moreomaoto, Khumaga, Toromoja, Mosu, Rakops and Mopipi.
MP for Boteti North Mr Slumber Tsogwane had asked the minister to update Parliament on maintenance schedule for the ministry’s facilities in Boteti, such as schools and customary courts; and further say when such facilities will be electrified. ENDS
