Itekeng councillor launches vision 20188232

As Batswana continue countdown towards realising Vision 2016, Francistown is also looking forward to have achieved a lot by 2022.

Despite these projections, youthful pioneer and a leader, Mr Lesego Kwambala, a councillor for Itekeng ward in the Francistown East constituency has come up with Vision 2018 which was officially launched recently.

The vision that is titled; Itekeng Vision 2018: A Dreamt Reality, is more focused on the people of Itekeng ward and has five pillars which are, a community of people who take the lead in their own development, people motivated and inspired to learn, know and be informed, a united people inspired to help others, positive and focused beings, a healthy, well and safe community.

When launching the vision, Councillor Lesego Kwambala stated that vision 2018 is not only his vision but for the people in his ward and urged them to join hands and work together towards realising it.

Councillor Kwambala stressed that in order to realise the vision, residents of Itekeng should take part in the education of their children. 

He stated that parents should work hand in hand with teachers. He also stressed that those who have been unfortunate not finish school, should utilise the non-formal education program to upgrade their education.Mr Kwambala also praised schools in his constituency, stressing that Our Lady of the Desert primary school and Nyangabwe primary school managed to be among the top three schools in Botswana last year and Setlalekgosi Junior school and Mater Spei College continued to perform well as they both managed to take position two country wide. He, however, encouraged the students, parents and teachers to aim high and be the best in the country.

Furthermore, he also stressed that he intends to work with schools and stakeholders in his constituency on a weekly basis to ensure that the education standard is desirable.

However, Mr Kwambala decried the high youth unemployment rate in his ward stressing that out of 10 youth, seven are unemployed and only 10 youth in Area W have been assisted with the Youth Development Fund. 

In addition, he said 15 projects are awaiting assistance; a number which he said is low. 

He urged youth to take into consideration government poverty eradication programs in order to be self-employed and create employment for others.Furthermore, he decried high rates of sex work in his area, urging residents to desist from partaking in such unbecoming behavior. 

He explained that they have requested the city of Francistown Council to allocate them one of the old council buildings in the ward to be used as the office of the Councillor and information center where youth will be able to research, read and apply for jobs.

The guest speaker, Mr Kabo Moseki explained that people like Councillor Kwambala are pioneers who are needed by people for the benefit and development of the country.He urged the people of Itekeng to work hand in hand with their councillor so that they can realise their dreams. 

He stressed that sky is the limit; stressing that coming up with a vision is innovative and it must not just end at Itekeng but should be a dream that is realised throughout the country. ENDS
