Goya wants results

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya, has challenged employees under his ministry to deliver results despite challenges associated with their jobs.
When addressing Serowe education region staff recently, Mr Goya urged all to double their efforts for better academic results.
“We are all paid to bring out results but it is painful that we continue to draw our salaries inspite of our failures,” Mr Goya said, adding that some people had developed habits of continuously yielding poor results.
He warned those complacent on the job that there were 3 145 qualified teachers awaiting employment. The assistant minister also cautioned those who turned down transfers that his ministry would no longer entertain such habits and also informed that there were ‘massive transfers’ in the pipeline.
“This message must permeate down to your subordinates,” Mr Goya said. The assistant minister conceded that there were some people who were demoralised because they were not promoted while non-performers were not punished.
Mr Goya advised that non-performers could be trained or ‘managed out of the system’. He also talked against the alleged tussling between headteachers and principal education officers saying the move would yield poor results.
He said that despite the seniority that may exist between the two, headtecahers must allow principal education officers to do their job with ease.Though he appreciated the challenges in the education sector, Mr Goya conceded that a middle income country like Botswana should graduate from having students taught under trees.
Consequently, Mr Goya revealed that his ministry was considering pre-fabricated structures to address shortage of classes.
“Batswana want return on investment
,” Mr Goya said to the education employees, emphasising the need to posit positive results. ENDS
