Kanye residents utilise public library
31 Mar 2015
Residents of Kanye have been applauded for embracing free basic computer skills offered at Kanye public library.
The library assistant, Ms Portia Kooreke, said in interview that since they started the programme in 2010, members of the public visited the library in good numbers.
Ms Kooreke said they had addressed schools and kgotla meetings to sensitise members of the public on the new development. She said they usually addressed youth and library clubs to encourage more people to enroll.
Ms Kooreke also indicated that after completion a learner was offered references but if they wanted to advance they paid P150 for accreditation at the Jwaneng public library where they would be offered a Certificate in Basic computer skills. She stressed that it was not easy for one to live in this day and age without basic computer skills when everything revolved around technology.
However, Kooreke explained that they were operating with only eight computers for the programme which was quite a challenge for a village the size of Kanye, thus he said they allocated 30 minutes for computer user. She said they catered for individuals aged 12 years and above. ENDS
