Minister aware of termites problem at Letsibogo
25 Mar 2015
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, says she is aware of the damage that termites have caused to the skirting, quadrants and chalkboard in class rooms at Letsibogo Primary School in Mmadinare.
Ms Tshireletso said she was also aware that Letsibogo Primary School had been experiencing water shortages as had been the rest of the village, due to pipe burst and power outages that resulted in no water stored in tanks to meet the village demand.
Furthermore, she said the water shortage was also exacerbated by the fact that the school was situated on higher ground and as such when the water levels in the storage tanks were low, the school was affected due to low pressure and the water borne toilets cannot be utilised.
She also told the House that, “to address the lack of availability of water borne toilets, the school administration has reverted to use pit latrines, and the problem of termites will be addressed in 2015/16 financial year, when Central District Council will employ termite eradicating expert to treat the foundation.”
Ms Tshireletso was responding to question from Mmadinare Member of Parliament, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila who had wanted to know if the minister was aware that Letsibogo Primary School in Mmadinare was infested with termites to the extent that in some classes the chalkboard had been destroyed by termites.
He also asked the minister if she was aware that the same school was experiencing significant water shortage to the extent that students and teachers cannot use the waterborne toilets.
MP Mzwinila further asked the minister to state what remedial action would be taken to address the problems. ENDS
