Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning (BOCODOL), executive director, Dr Daniel Tau says India has demonstrated unwavering support and commitment to the development of human resources in Botswana and Africa.

Speaking at the Amity University certificate handover, Dr Tau said India had been supportive through the funding of the Pan Africa e-Network project.

Amity University, which is based in India, collaborated with BOCODOL in offering tele-education programmes since 2014, which included amongst others Diploma in Information Technology, Bachelor of Science, Information Technology, Bachelor of Finance and Invest analysis, Master of Finance and Control, Master of International Business.

Dr Tau said whilst the number of graduates had sharply declined from 71 in 2014, they were still grateful that Batswana continued to take advantage of learning opportunities aimed to empower them in critical areas.

He said the diversity of programmes on which graduates were emerging was in line with their transformation agenda as well as the desire to continuously diversify commensurate with the needs of citizens.

BOCODOL, he said, was at an advanced stage of attaining university status and diversification drive constitute one of their pre-occupations.

“True to our value of technology is our engine of growth, we shall endeavour to offer a variety of programmes and services through mediation of different technologies, as is the case with Universities and like-minded institutions the world over, that are embracing modern technology as a critical platform for maximising their service delivery” he said.

For his part, deputy executive director, Dr Tichatonga Nhundu congratulated the graduates saying they managed to the finish line because they sacrificed many important things to pursue their studies.

“Some of you were prepared to lose friends while others might have endured strained relationship, well, what can I say. The fact that we are gathered here means that your sacrifices were not in vain,” he said. Eighteen graduates were awarded certificates.
