Patience pays - Makgalemele

23 Mar 2015

The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Philip Makgalemele has advised young people to always be patient and strive for the best.

Mr Makgalemele said this during commemoration of Africa Scout Day by 18 schools from Mahalapye and Shoshong in Moralane on March 21.

He said they should get their priorities right and aim higher for better things so that they become responsible citizens.  Clubs such as Scout are very good as they teach young people ways of survival and how to be responsible, he added.

Mr Makgalemele said through scout, they also learnt to be self-reliant, noting that if many young people engage in clubs and activities which teach them good from bad, there would be many responsible young people who would in future develop the country.

However, he noted that though there were many challenges affecting the youth, such as technology and internet they should not be discouraged from doing the right thing.

Furthermore, the assistant minister encouraged them to take their education seriously, noting that through education they could do better and discouraged them from drugs and alcohol abuse as they hinder school performance.

On other issues, Mr Makgalemele said his ministry was responsible for eradicating poverty amongst communities hence the 45 government initiatives.

However, he pleaded with the youth to come up with other initiatives which could benefit them, adding that government was doing all to eradicate poverty so that by 2017 no one would be living in abject poverty.

Mr Makgalemele encouraged people to take advantage of the government initiatives especially the youth to help curb unemployment. He also advised young people to take part in health initiatives, like circumcision which could help them prevent sexually transmitted diseases. ENDS
