Maun senior moves to improve results
23 Mar 2015
Maun Senior Secondary School has been performing poorly in the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations results for the past five years.
The school head, Ms Selebatso Modisaemang, said this during the school’s unveiling of the Maduo Top 10 Wall recently.
Ms Modisaemang noted that as the management of the school, they had not been proud of themselves following the poor academic results, hence coming together and committing themselves to be counted amongst the Top 10 senior secondary schools from now onwards.
For his part, the chief executive officer of the HR Group, Mr Dave Bagwasi applauded all the stakeholders who worked tirelessly and made sure that Maun Senior Secondary School escalated from position 24 last year to position 18 this year.
He noted that as the HR Group, they were embracing the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) ‘Adopt a School” concept by modernising Maun Senior School’s operational systems and processes.
Mr Bagwasi noted that they were working symbiotically to promote recital excellence and they were informed that at one point, students from Shakawe Senior Secondary School were absorbed by Maun Senior. He said among other factors, cultural diversity management were some of the reasons that led to the poor student pass rate.
“It was then that the school management led by Ms Modisaemang and other governance structures held the bull by its horns to normalise the standards,” said Mr Bagwasi, noting that this was the time when the HR Group came into the picture.
Mr Bagwasi described the HR Group as a training and organisational development consultancy firm and for the first time in their operation, they were engaged in organisational development consultancy for government, particularly Maun Senior School.
Furthermore, Mr Bagwasi said that as a nation, they should count themselves as fortunate that President Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama had used his executive office to show high priority on service delivery dimension.
Mr Bagwasi added that for the school to improve its results, counseling sessions for new entrants in the institution were conducted, team building gatherings coupled with motivational speaking diagonally across Maun Senior structures were also incorporated. He noted that the mounted wall played an important role in revolutionising Maun Senior education landscape.
The Regional director for North West, Mr AcroNews Maseko said he had an opportunity to address parents and teachers in 2013 to bring back the prestige of Maun Senior to where it belonged, that is at the top. He said that it was a great feeling to realise that the school had tremendously improved, by attaining position one country wide in Biology and English Literature.
Mr Maseko advised the students of Maun Senior to take their education seriously so that their dream of appearing amongst the top 10 schools could become a reality. ENDS
