At least two people died in separate road accidents around Palapye this week.

Palapye police traffic officer, Assistant Superintendent Robert Mmese, said in one of the accidents, one driver died after a Toyota Mark II he was driving collided with a Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) bus around 10pm on Wednesday (March 18) about 30m from Morupule B Power Station main gate along Serowe/Palapye road.

He said the Toyota Mark II driver was certified dead at the hospital in Palapye whilst the passenger he was with sustained serious injuries and was referred to Mahalapye District Hospital.

He said four people, the driver and three passengers, were travelling on the BPC bus, which was coming from Palapye whilst the Toyota Mark II that had two people was coming from the Serowe direction. He said the bus occupants sustained minor injuries.

He said police investigations were still ongoing and he appealed to the public to help them identify the deceased’s next of kin.

In another accident, a Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) employee died after an accident that occurred near the corporation’s pump station near Morupule B Power Station project along Serowe/Palapye road on Tuesday (March 17).

Assistant Superintendent Mmese said the accident occurred in the morning around 7:30am after an Audi, which was coming from Palapye hit a WUC 2.7 double cab vehicle at the back as it was turning to the WUC pump station.

The WUC vehicle overturned resulting in one passenger sustaining serious injuries and rushed to Palapye Primary Hospital where he was later reported dead. He said five people including the driver were travelling on the WUC vehicle whilst the driver of the Audi vehicle was travelling alone.

He said police investigations were still at a preliminary stage. Assistant Superintendent Mmese urged drivers to always obey traffic signs and to avoid over speeding. ENDS
