Kebonang appluads AGs

The Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Sadique Kebonang, says it is a worthwhile endeavour for the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGs) to have joined other departments in rewarding deserving employees.

Officiating at the first AGs awards ceremony in Gaborone on March 13, Mr Kebonang said he was pleased to learn that the department had a team of men and women in this legal-powered organisation who believed that Batswana deserved good service delivery.

He therefore said the extent to which they satisfied the needs and expectations of customers was always an indicator of the type of people they were, adding that each recipient had demonstrated a sustained commitment to service delivery, to leadership, to innovation, and/or relationship building through wellness sports.

Mr Kebonang, who is also an attorney, however said the rewarding of employees was not only in compliance with the requirements of the Public Service Rewards Menu, but goes a long way to motivate the staff.
“This is a testament to our aspirations as government as to yourselves as an organisation to strive to do better, and therefore improve the way we provide services to our customers”, he said.

He noted the rewards were a wonderful way to recognise and encourage individuals and organisational excellence. They are symbolic of the desire and ability to work together for a common good as they highlight dedication to continuous improvement.

Mr Kebonang further said he salute their commitment, hard work and determination to succeed, for the betterment of the people and the country adding that having this event indicates that their sacrifice does not go unnoticed by the government and the people.

“We need to transform the way we operate, to channel our resources more effectively, and to open up ourselves to new ideas, to new businesses and entrepreneurs and new technology.

To do this we need to be on the cutting edge ensuring that our services are fit for the 21st century: agile and of flexible”, he said to a loud applause.

The awards included the Most Innovative; Best Mentor; Best in Customer care; Best Team Player, Attorney General’s Award; Long Service/Special Award of loyalty; Best Performer and Overall Best Performer, Excelling Teams and Committee.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Attorney General Dr Athaliah Molokomme said though they have been toying with the idea of holding such an event, their prime concern has been shortage of funds among others.

She however said since they want to motivate and reward the staff at the same time, they found it fitting to come up with a prudent and focused way of staging the awards particularly that they have a large number of staff to reward. The department intends to hold the event annually. ENDS
