Police chief advises young cops

Young police officers from the North East District have been advised to make the right decisions as they go about their various responsibilities.
Speaking at a one-day workshop in Matsiloje recently, Superintendent Obert Manji explained that for every choice - big or small - there was no easy formula for making the right decision.
Supt Manji said the best they could do was to approach any situation they faced from as many perspectives as possible and then choose a course of action that may seem reasonable and balanced at that time.
He said their main objective was to protect life and property of the communities they served, which was regulated by the Police Act.
Supt Manji encouraged young police officers to work hard and deliver quality service to the community, adding that the service should not be requested by the customer, but rather the customer should demand it.
He said the purpose of the workshop was to encourage behaviour change amongst youthful police officers and that officers were expected to be in the fore front because they were in the eyes of the public.
He said some young recruits had a tendency of cohabiting after they had been allocated accommodation, adding that it was a major concern; he thus encouraged positive communication and urged them to request permission well in time from their superiors.
Bishop Dave David of Gate Way Ministries also encouraged the young officers to change their behaviour because they were valuable to the community. He said they were born for a purpose, therefore the decisions they made today should determine their future.
Bishop David urged the officers to recognise that they were valuable and “born as geniuses”and what was left for them was to find their identity. In his welcoming remarks, Kgosi Eric Moipolai of Matsiloje, who is also a member at Ntlo ya Dikgosi, appreciated the workshop, saying it would bring change into people’s lives.
Kgosi Moipolai said that when he called people to kgotla they did not attend fully, adding that forums like Youth Centres were user friendly because he was even encouraged to address some of the issues concerning his people. ENDS
