Parliament on Wednesday (March 11) adopted a motion calling for an establishment of a task force to investigate allegations of maladministration at Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC). 

The motion by Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatius Moswaane, also called for suspension of termination of employment for some BNYC employees.  MP Moswaane applauded the MPs for their response saying all arms of government must work together and alleviate confusion. 

He said he hoped all appointed in the task force would avoid conflict of interest adding he also hoped Parliament would constantly be informed about its progress.  Earlier on, effort by Gaborone Bonnington South MP, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe to amend the motion was rejected by Parliament. 

Mr Gaolathe was of the opinion that instead of a task force, Parliament must appoint a special committee to undertake investigations.  Gaborone Central MP Dr Phenyo Butale said he could not support the motion as it seemed it would be like requesting the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture to investigate itself. 

He also said he wanted clarification that all employees who have been fired from BNYC will be re-employed. ENDS
