Partnerships way to go

Residents of Tati-Siding in Tati-East constituency have been urged to form partnerships in order to come up with initiatives that can help develop them.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Tati-Siding on March 6, the Member of Parliament for Tati-East constituency, Mr Samson Guma said gone were the days when getting an education was considered an achievement.
He noted that graduates were roaming the streets due to unemployment and he advised residents not to look up to the government for employment but to come up with projects that could help create jobs.
Mr Guma said the North East District was rich in minerals, water and professionals, adding that residents should work together to create employment. He also urged residents not to sell their land, adding that it was a source of income and security for them.
Furthermore, Mr Guma noted that the Dikgatlhong Dam had plenty of fish that young people could benefit from. He urged residents not to lose hope and to develop a culture of working hard. The Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Tsietso Ikaneng decried the lack of developments in the village.
He said they have requested for a postal agency, police station, recreational park, sports grounds and shelters in different wards of the village. Mr Ikaneng complained about Water Utilities Corporations (WUC), saying it has ruined many roads and never repairs them to their former state.
In response to some of the VDC issues, Mr Guma said the country experienced an economic meltdown in 2008. He said the country’s economy was based on selling diamonds and that once they were not bought, the government decided to cut down on some new projects and to avoid retrenching workers. ENDS
