Parliament adjourns early
08 Mar 2015
Parliament, for the second week in a row, adjourned the private members business prematurely.
A fortnight ago, the Friday business came to an abrupt halt after Deputy Speaker, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi, denied Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatius Moswaane permission to table an urgent motion.
Mr Moswaane had wanted to table an urgent motion without notice concerning alleged maladministration and loss of employment by some employees of Botswana National Youth Council.
Another heated argument ensured this past Friday (March 6), resulting with Parliament adjourning early again.
This happened when Mr Moswaane, a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) legislator, asked the Deputy Speaker to clarify why the motion was not seen as an urgent issue. The Deputy Speaker said Mr Moswaane had failed to comply with procedures for noticing an urgent motion, something which was refuted by the MP.
And when Mr Molatlhegi tried to continue with business, by asking Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse, to table his motion on ‘Delinking health workers from the civil service,’ some MPs left the House causing collapse of the quorum. Business was then adjourned. ENDS
