The Charity Association of Chinese in Botswana (CACB) together with Chinese Medical Team  organised a medical care day for the less privileged at SOS Children’s village in Tlokweng on February 28.

The chairperson of Charity Association of Chinese in Botswana, Mr Miles Nan, said the CACB had long embarked on charitable causes and made donations of food, clothing and blankets to less privileged people around Botswana.

He said that this initiative was propelled by that he has observed that children are the future of this country therefore they have put their healthcare as one of their primary objectives. “Children are the future leaders of tomorrow, so it is important to secure their future by ensuring that they have healthy bodies and minds,” he said.

Mr Nan added that apart from the body check-up for the children at SOS Children’s Village, there would also be some medical check-ups for the less privileged people, in order to find the potential diseases, and prevent the disease from deterioration so that people would not suffer pain of sickness and the economic loss.

The medical day also incorporated several doctors at the village who did free medical consultation for both the children and any member of the society.

Furthermore, the national coordinator for SOS Children’s Village, Mr Motshwari Kitso stated that they have established a long working relationship with the Chinese people over the past years. Mr Kitso stated, “They have sponsored different projects across Botswana as a form of social responsibility by supporting the cause of youth employment, poverty alleviation and skills training.”

He added they have supported them in numerous occasions as they also sponsored the building of a house for a disadvantaged family in Tlokweng and drilled a borehole last year at the village of Serowe.

Also, he applauded the Chinese government for this medical day, adding that SOS Children’s Village accommodates children from different social backgrounds; hence each has different medical needs. Kitso said it was the mandate of the village to ensure that every child has good health, education and psycho-social support.

In addition, Mr Nan said that they have tested more than 200 children and adults, and they have issued them with record cards and this initiative would spread to other parts of the country and they would do these consultations at least twice a year to monitor the health of the children.  ENDS
