Kaputura on cloud nine

01 Mar 2015

Residents of Kaputura settlement in Ngamiland are on cloud nine after the water crisis in their settlement and surrounding villages was resolved.

The residents will now enjoy the comfort of fetching water close by thanks to the Ngamiland District leadership who actively followed the issue after media reports had indicated that the residents stayed for months without water.

The leadership, comprising the district commissioner, council chairperson, council secretary, and officials from Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) paid a visit to the settlement to explain the root of the problem. Kaputura is a remote area settlement that lies across the Okavango River in the general area of Shakawe, some 5km North West of Kauxwi.

Speaking during the meeting, council chairperson, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa informed the residents that the water shortage in their village would be a thing of the past as they would have access to potable water.

Mr Reaobaka informed the residents that the problem was caused by malfunctioning treatment plant at Mohembo which was old and also needed to be upgraded as it could not supply many villages. “We appreciate that water is vital in people’s wellbeing and I can assure you that the plant has been fixed and you will now enjoy potable water,” he said.

On other issues the residents complained about lack of developments and poor service delivery in their settlement.

Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Dupo Robert said they accessed services from as far as Xakao and Kauxwi.

He also complained about the road saying it was inaccessible and thus needed to be graveled. He said it posed danger to the community adding that they also experience delay in collecting their Identity cards, birth certificates, and school certificates. ENDS
