No relocation for Monganakodu 8232ward

19 Feb 2015

The Malete Land Board has taken a decision not to relocate the Monganakodu allotees who were allocated plots in flood plains.

Responding to a question in Parliament , the Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele said  indeed the Malete Land Board received reports around 2008 from some plots holders allocated residential plots at Manganakodu ward complaining about water seepage and also requesting relocation.

Mr Maele stated that following the reports, the Land Board engaged the Department of Geological surveys to undertake a study into the probable causes of the seepage in 2013. He mentioned that the study determined that there was a pounding which was not caused by seepage, but rather by runoff water during rainy season.

Parliament learnt that the situation was further exacerbated by lack of storm water drainage system to divert runoff water during rainy season. Furthermore, Minister Maele said the Department of Geological Survey recommended that the area be serviced with storm water drainage to divert the water away from the area.

He noted that the South District was also planning to include a project for construction of storm water drainage in the village in National Development Plan 11 (NDP 11). Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the minister what the Malete Land Board was doing about the relocation of the Monganakodu residents in Ramotswa who were allocated plots in flood plains. ENDS
